The 1975 is a popular English band that started in Wilmslow in 2002. The band has four members: Matty Healy, who sings and plays guitar and writes most of their songs, Adam Hann on lead guitar, Ross MacDonald on bass, and George Daniel on drums and production. They got their name from some notes Matty found in his copy of On the Road by Jack Kerouac, which were written on June 1st, 1975.

The band members met in school and started performing together as teenagers in 2002. They released their music professionally in 2012 under the independent label Dirty Hit. From 2012 to 2013, they opened for big artists and released a series of EPs - Facedown, Sex, Music for Cars, and IV. Their debut album (2013) called [band name] was a hit in the UK, with popular songs like "Sex", "Chocolate", and "Robbers".
